Movie review score
3/5

What’s it about?
Evil-villain-turned-super-dad Gru is recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a powerful new super criminal in what is promoted as a Bond parody. Alas there aren’t double “o”s, just “oh no”s.

What did we think?
Anthony Sherratt says: The clever undertones of the first movie are missing and in their place are fart jokes and other assorted immaturity. It’s not a bad movie – in fact most kids will love it – but there’s not very much there for adults other than a few late laughs. The promise of a clever parody quickly evaporates and it’s only the antics of the minions that keep it vaguely watchable for maturer audiences.

One Response so far.

  1. Shannon Saunders says:

I’m a MASSIVE fan of the first film and, in particular, the minions. Having said that, in this sequel the minions’ performance was weak and had me thinking that they could have potentially gone without. In the first film, they provided innocence and, to an extent, the ignorance and idiocy that is funny and charming. This time around it seems the creators have pulled the next best idea out of their behind in an attempt to keep the beloved characters Involved. They lack the charaterisation and sponteneity present in the first film, and the storyline depends too much on this. Therefore, it did not work, whatsoever. Utterly disappointed.
